Album Review

In case you didn't catch the symbolism, Chris Cornell is smashing a guitar on the cover of Scream because he's done with those six-strings — he's leaving it all behind for Timbaland, who has long wanted to leave hip-hop and R&B behind to make a rock album. As an idea, this rock-dance fusion has some merit; clearly, Cornell needs to do something to shake himself out of his solo stupor and Timbaland is an imaginative, daring producer whose gifts are not limited by genre, although as much as they want to stretch, neither Cornell nor Timbaland is willing to leave his comfort zone here. To be fair, Timbaland's tracks are often augmented by additional production by anyone from Justin Timberlake to OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder. Whoever was directly responsible, the result sounds like skittering dance-pop, graced by Cornell's sometimes looped, sometimes manipulated caterwaul.

i understand why this album is only 7.99- this is a huge disappointment for me to listen to, why would he put down the guitar for this crap... i own all audioslave, soundgarden and temple of the dog cd's so i am a huge fan of his music... there were only few songs on this cd i found tolerable... seriously c'mon Chris you can do better than that

Chris? Is that really you?

Look. Chris Cornell is a fantastic singer and nonetheless a musical genius. But what is this? He's completely left rock for something i can't even assign a genre. I respect him for doing what he loves, but I hope this is only a phase and he will rejoin rock again.

Very Catchy

I'm going to be honest, I didn't listen to a whole lot of Soundgarden or Audioslave. I liked some of their songs but only select ones, so I guess I can say I was a fan but not a diehard fan. When I heard my girlfriend playing Scream from my laptop, I couldn't believe that it was Chris Cornell singing since he has such a definitive voice, but I found the song to be very catchy and liked it right away. I'm one of those music listeners that judges the song within the first 10 seconds of listening and can tell right away whether I am going to love or hate the song. With a majority of this solo album I found I was loving more than hating these songs which I found quite surprising. When comparing it to his past solo albums, this one takes the cake. I listen to everything from Mudvayne and Lynyrd Skynyrd to Eric Hutchinson and Benny Benassi and I must say, this album is definitely in my current top favorites. I don't know why it's been given 3 stars.
