Album Review

There comes a time in every punk's life where he or she has to grow up, or at least acknowledge that maturity is just around the corner. blink-182 put it off for as long as they could, but ten years into their career and two albums after their big breakthrough, 1999's Enema of the State, they decided to make a stab at being grown-ups for their eponymous sixth studio album. As with many self-titled albums, the trio uses this as an attempt to redefine itself, and they have considerably expanded both their sonic template and lyrical outlook on blink-182. They're still rooted in punk-pop, but even songs that stretch no further than that sound are a little darker, a little restless, reflecting the overall mood of the record. In shorthand, this is the record where blink-182 delve into post-punk, opting for some appealingly sullen moodiness, off-kilter hooks, lots of sonic textures, and even a duet with the Cure's Robert Smith. Since the trio is an inherently catchy group, this is a far cry from neo-post-punk groups like Interpol or even the dynamically hooky Hot Hot Heat, but there is a greater variety of sounds on blink-182 than on any of the trio's other albums, and the songwriting is similarly adventurous, alternating punchy, impassioned punk-pop with weirder, atmospheric pieces like "Down" and "I'm Lost Without You." If nothing on the album has the immediate impact of "All the Small Things" — though the opener, "Feeling This," comes close — and if, on the whole, blink-182 isn't as bracing or visceral as Dude Ranch or Enema, so be it: there's more to explore on this album than any of their other records. It's an unexpected and welcome maturation from a band that just an album ago seemed permanently stuck in juvenilia. [Geffen issued an explicit, 15-track edition in 2009.]

I started off not liking the "new" blink182 but after listening a few times i really started liking it. marks voice is great with toms in songs like stockholm syndrome and feeling this. I still like the original blink 182 but give this album a shot cause there next album(since they're back 09) is probably gonna be pretty close to this.

The Greatest Blink Album To Date

Blink-182 is the greatest punk rock band that ever lived.

Feeling This- 10/10, my personal favorite on the album, and possibly out of all blink's other songs. Fantastic chorus with great melodies throughout

Obvious- 7/10, a good, fast paced song. not the greatest song, but has a catchy chorus and sick guitar riffs.

I Miss you- 8/10, probably blink's most well known song, it has a softer sound and mark's echoing voice makes it sound kind of dark, but a very well done song

Violence- 7/10, has a catchy chorus, but not the greatest song ever

Stockholm Syndrome Interlude- 0/10, i'm not gonna rate the interludes

Stockholm Syndrome- 10/10, one of the best songs on the album, very fast paced with hard drums and blasting guitar with amazing bass lines. a very well done song

Down- 9/10, a very powerful song, the verses are amazing and the chorus blew me away

The Fallen Interlude- 0/10, again, im not gonna rate the interludes

GO- 8/10, a very fast pacee, angry song. very creative, but it's too short

Asthenia- 9/10, a catchy song, the vocals were one of the best on the album

Always- 10/10, another fantastic song, the bass is epic and the chorus is impossible not to sing along to

Easy Target- 6/10, not one of my favorites, has a very pounding, rhythmic, repetitive beat that gets tiring after a while

All of This- 7/10, one of blinks slower songs, features that guy from the Cure whos name i cant remember

Here's Your Letter- 9/10, a good song, catchy bass lines and a good chorus

I'm Lost Without You- 9/10, a slower song, but still good nonetheless. travis' drum solo at the end was sick

Blink is back together, and is touring the US. I can't wait till their new album comes out. Buy this album, its as good as it gets
