iTunes Review
An Eminem album is always more than the sum of its grooves. It’s a psychotherapy playground where its confessor manipulates the intelligence until no one’s sure where the truth is hiding. He lashes out at the world, but he’s no stranger to self-loathing. Eminem’s sober, but he’s not happy about it. His first album in five years, Relapse brings the sound of a man pent-up in his own brain-frozen hell. Valium, Vicodin, Ambien, you name it, Eminem has words for it. “Déjà Vu” recounts his slide down the pharmaceutical trail, passed out in cars, admitted to hospitals for “pneumonia” while hiding drugs from his 11-year old daughter. Em’s old imagined nemeses — Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan — are pretty tired by comparison (the tune’s even called “Same Song and Dance”). “My Mom” offers “sympathy.” He figures his problems are either genetically inherited or learned from a mother he professes to still love. His ex-wife Kim seems to be in the clear, but then maybe she’s embedded deeper in Eminem’s private code. His mind may have been a blur over these years, but he remembers when necessary.

The Foreign Slim Shady ~ Relapse
by dededahahaWhat do all of our parents tell us when we are little kids? Don't...do...drugs! Except Marshall Mathers' had a mother who was a drug addict and therefore had impacted the little boy who would grow up to be Eminem. She had no idea that her son would grow up to take the world by storm, releasing three straight classic albums ("The Slim Shady LP", "The Marshall Mathers LP", and "The Eminem Show"), put out an only okay retiring album ("Enocre"), "take a break", release an album with a collection of his greatest hits, "Curtain Call" which included the most heartfelt song ever written ("When I'm Gone"), become addicted to sleep medication, be checked into a three-year period of rehab, then come back and put out the long awaited return of the villianous Slim Shady.
No, why would that even cross her mind?
But yet, here it is... Eminem's comeback album, "Relapse". Spending his time either locked away in his house taking drug-indused naps or unconsious in a hospitol bed, Eminem finally drew himself out of his self-depression and he put all his effort towards creating the lyrical masterpiece that you just so happen to be listening to right now. And that is no lie - THIS ALBUM IS A WORK OF LYRICAL GENIOUS. but the only problem with this is the strange, exotic accent that eminem has somehow aquired over his time in rehab.
To start off the album, eminem revives the insane Slim Shady in the derranged "3 A.M.". Dre's production is horror-fim worthy and Em kills the beat with his intense flow that has now been overtaken by the phsycotic mind of Slim Shady. Except now, Shady is an EXOTIC phsycopath. Either way you look at it, "3 A.M." is the most intense, evil memoir ever told by eminem. Other songs like this are the frightening five minunte long "Stay Wide Awake" and the appropriatly named "Insane". "Stay Wide Awake" is a song that reminds me of "Kill You" from "The Marshall Mathers LP", humorous, but almost scary at the same time. These three songs are almost like a horror movie in your head if you really think about it.
Being addicted to drugs was a huge part of Eminem's life over the last four years, and since he always expresses his problems through his music, I was not surprised to see many drug refrences throughout the album. "Deja Vu", a cleverly crafted masterpiece written by a druken madman (Eminem) is just one of the many descriptions of the mindset Marshall Mathers was in. Other songs related to "Deja Vu" are "Must Be The Ganja", "My Mom", "Medicine Ball", and "Underground".
-Must Be The Ganja: The Chorus in this song is extrem;y catchy and the whole song is very humorus to listen to, although it is a very serious song, at least to eminem. 9/10
-My Mom: The lyrics in this song are just mind-blowing. The chorus is amazing and the verses are even better. 9/10
-Medicine Ball: The chorus falters in this song and the vereses are only okay, but I do like the concept behind the whole song. 6/10
-Underground: The hard-hitting end to "Relpase", and also one of the only songs where he doesn't overuse his silly accent.
And then there is the crazy and some what out of place "We Made You". With over twenty celebrity disses, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a leftover from "Encore". Even though he's been out of the game, Eminem is still causing his daily dose of contraversy in "Bagpipes From Baghdad", dissing Maraih Carey and Nick Cannon.
There is one song that stands out from all the rest, "Beautiful" is the best song Eminem has ever come out with next to "Lose Yourself", "Mockingbird", "When I'm Gone" & "Till I Collapse".
OVERALL: "Relapse" beats out his last album "Encore" becuase there are only two songs that were meant to be funny, the rest were pure truth. Eminem goes deep into his addiction, looks forward to the future, and succsessfully reawakens Slim Shady. Top five:
5.) My Mom
4.) Careful What You Wish For (on the Delux Version) 9/10
3.) Deaj Vu 9/10
2.) 3 A.M. 9/10
1.) Beautiful 10/10
OVERALL RATING: 7.75/10
