Description

The Fry Chronicles eBook is an enhanced digital title containing exclusive video material viewable on colour devices, such as the iPad, and fully integrated photography. With seven videos, links to relevant websites and web content, this enhanced eBook will bring an enriched reading experience to fans of Stephen Fry and eBook lovers everywhere. Please note that this is a large file which will take some time to download over slower connections. Thirteen years ago, Moab is my Washpot, Stephen Fry's autobiography of his early years, was published to rave reviews and was a huge bestseller. In those thirteen years since, Stephen Fry has moved into a completely new stratosphere, both as a public figure, and a private man. Now he is not just a multi-award-winning comedian and actor, but also an author, director and presenter. In January 2010, he was awarded the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards. Much loved by the public and his peers, Stephen Fry is one of the most influential cultural forces in the country. This dazzling memoir promises to be a courageously frank, honest and poignant read. It will detail some of the most turbulent and least well known years of his life with writing that will excite you, make you laugh uproariously, move you, inform you and, above all, surprise you.

Customer Reviews

I'm not a reader

Being someone that hates to read and instead prefers to dip in and out of audio books (even then my attention struggles). I had quite a problem when this book arrived. I wanted to experience it because I admire Stephen Fry, but then you've the book, enhanced book, audio book and the extremely interesting app myfry. I decided to go for the enhanced book, (the featured videos winning me over). As a result ive breezed through the first quarter of the book in one sitting. Which is unheard of for me. I've heard the term "page turner" but never experienced it until now. The greatest review that I can give this book is that it's extremely well written. It's extremely honest, informative and captivating. It has turned a non reader like myself into someone that can't wait to read what happens next. Excellent and I shall be getting the first now to.

HUGELY ENTERTAINING

Thrilled to see Stephen Fry's new book available for download on iBooks. I was hooked from page 1 and enjoyed every page thereafter. I'd like to think that this took him some time to write because the sentences are so beautifully constructed.

His latest book, not unlike his others, serves as an example of the scope and richness of the English language. A genuine modern classic that is hugely entertaining.

To those that continue to bemoan iTunes pricing - please realise that iTunes' review facility is available for shoppers to share their appraisals of actual content. It is not meant to be an outlet for spleen venting or political statements.

Don't feel compelled to gloat about your buying preferences. If you have an actual opinion that's relevant to the product, I'm certain that other customers would value your opinion; they could care less about where you choose to shop.

In addition to the price...

Enough of the criticism of the price of the enhanced edition: is the book really worth reading on a literary level?

Mr. Fry is at pains to point out how his life has been blessed in so many ways. He also wants us all to know that, hidden within his smug outer shell, there dwells a creature of self-doubt and low self-esteem. His book is peppered with paragraphs reinforcing and reiterating his tortured inner self. Unfortunately, there is precious little else that helps you know the author more intimately, despite his opening assertions of forthcoming brutal honesty.

From reading this book, it is clear that Mr.Fry has lots of friends and acquaintances. We are frequently treated to lists of famous folk from the entertainment world. Unfortunately there are precious few anecdotes or observations that bring them, or Mr.Fry, to life.

I have always enjoyed his dramatic appearances and his various TV activities. However, I find little to admire in his writing style. I purchased the enhanced edition, knowing Mr.Fry was a keen techie. It did not deliver on the multimedia promise. There are very few internet links and the videos add little to the experience, being mainly chats to camera.

In summary, a bit of a letdown...
Luckily, Mr.Fry never reads reviews of his work, so no need to offer apologies if I was a little too harsh.
