iTunes Review
Guitar Heroes from Mexico via Ireland, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero have been dazzling fans internationally since the release of their Rodrigo y Gabriela album in 2006. Armed with only a pair of acoustic guitars, the duo creates a full, energetic sound; Rodrigo covers leads and melodies, while Gabriela’s specialty is harmony, rhythm, and guitar-based percussion. 11:11, comprised of 11 original compositions, features some notable guest stars. Guitarist Alex Skolnick of Testament literally and figuratively adds electricity to the intricate “Atman,” with fellow acoustic guitar duo Strunz & Farah on board for the bubbling “Master Maqui.” And for those who can’t believe that Rodrigo y Gabriela’s mind-boggling sound can be produced live by just two instrumentalists, a live track piece is pure, bonus track proof.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela Are Amazing
I loved their self-titled first album but 11:11 is a perfect follow up and I really enjoy that they haven't lost their style. Rodrigo y Gabriela continue to impress me with their intuitive music design and I hope to see more from them in the future. Here are my thoughts and ratings on their songs.
Hanuman 10/10: This song is an explosive intro to this album with a sound that really catches your ear and makes you want more.
Buster Voodoo 10/10: I love this song because it starts by chugging along and then develops into a complex musical symphony.
Triveni 10/10: The opening to this song reminds me of Diablo Rojo and the song keeps a beat that is melodic and lively. Just Great.
Logos 9/10: This song is lovely and is a really good listen; it is a bit somber but has a rhythm that stays with you.
Santo Domingo 10/10: The opening catches your attention and gets your feet moving. An amazing song.
Master Maqui 10/10: This song starts like a creeping spider and then gains a beat that keeps true to flamenco guitar. I love this song.
Savitri 10/10: You are almost getting two songs with Savitri, half way through there is a change in beat and this song transforms into an almost tribal beat.
Hora Zero 10/10: In this song there is so much to love, you just have to hear it to understand where i'm coming from.
Chac Mool 9/10: This song incorporates many different instruments but is more of a follow up song for Atman and I feel coud have been included to the song.
Atman 10/10: This song is expertly crafted and I love the subtleties that you hear, and just the over all feel I got from this song was amazement.
11:11 10/10: I think this song is a great conclusion to this album the beginning sounds almost as if someone is rhythmically sanding wood and the ending gives me a feeling of finality.
I love this album and I believe if you liked their first album this will be a welcome addition to your collection but even if you haven't heard of them I would recommend this album to anyone who is looking for great music.
Rodrigo y Gabriela shine on second CD
Rodrigo y Gabriela's second CD, 11:11, refers to the synchronicity inherent in the numerological value of those four singular digits, a paean to rebirth and harmony. Certainly, it is no coincidence that these two life partners have found each other, and together have forged an alliance that brings forth the memories of other renowned guitar duos, from the great Flamenco pairing of Sabicas and Escudero, to the historic partnership of Strunz and Farah (who appear along with Rodgab on the Paco De Lucia homage "Master Maqui"), as well as the classical siblings Sergio and Odair Assad. Rodrigo y Gabriela has emerged as an essential meeting of musical minds and share in the historical immediacy of this vital tradition in guitar.
The album itself is a kind of living evocation to the greats of the guitar world that have helped shape and influence these two kindred souls. Hanuman, dedicated to Carlos Santana, is a natural first track. Both players hail from Mexico, the CD itself recorded in Ixtapa, and Santana one of the world's most influential guitarists whose soul may be Rock, but whose roots are Latin American. Buster Voodoo, dedicated to Jimi Hendrix, wah wahs its way through their acoustic guitars and vibrates with Jimi's cool. Triveni, is dedicated to Israeli Oud three-piece Le Trio Joubran, of who I am not familiar, but pulsates with the mystery of the sacred land. Logos, a gorgeous arpeggiated interlude in honor of the great Al Dimeola, captures the mystery and sweetness of Al's playing. Santo Domingo, dedicated to Cuban piano genius Michel Camilo, shows Rodgab's Caribbean flair. But it is on Master Maqui that the real genius of the album resides, in a quartet with overdubs dedicated to the penultimate acoustic guitarist, Flamenco giant Paco De Lucia. Joining the duo are their spiritual mentors, Strunz and Farah, in a scintillating interplay of rhythm, sustained as always remarkably by Gabriella Quintana. An Argentine Chacarera rhythm is whimsically feted, with the inestimable and head shaking scales of both Ardeshir and, as always, the greatest of all scale players, Jorge Strunz providing support to their young compatriots. The rest of the CD is remarkable for its imagination, energy and beauty, particularly Atman, a Middle Eastern dirge, hypnotic in mystery and essence.
Rodrigo y Gabriela is the most recent stop for the spirit of the guitar duo, a very vibrant and fulfilling place to be sure.
the time is now
Just guitars, yet so very much more. Only instrumentals, speaking volumes without vocals. Vital, Energizing, Moving. Inspired by the world. Breathing life into the music of the world. This music is yours. Thank you Rodrigo y Gabriela.
