But a few years out of high school when they recorded this slyly sophisticated debut, PAD initially casts a familiar punk-pop spell (guitarist Ryan Ross and drummer Spencer Smith once toiled in a Vegas-based Blink 182 cover band), typified by the emo-core-on-steroids urgency of singer Brendan Urie on the snarky stand-out "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage." But the band quickly dispels notions of the formulaic with the nervy "London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines, " then busts the envelope of expectations wide open with the prog-meets-punk ethos of "Camisado," the Queen-channeling "Intermission" and the grand, genre-bending conceits of "But Its Better If You Do" and "Build God, Then We'll Talk." The band and producer Mint Squire may use the sonic trappings of contemporary musical fashion as lure, but they quickly transform them into something far more original, ambitious and intriguing.

From a fan of Fall Out Boy.
I heard this band was a lot like Fall Out Boy and I understand the comparisons but don't let them make you think they're cut from the same sugary, pop rock cloth. Although they share the jilted teenage boy angst thing, clever lyrics and catchy as heck music, Fever is much darker than From Under the Cork Tree. With lyrical imagery involving "testosterone boys and harlequin girls" and "sleeping with roaches", it's obvious these guys aren't exactly going to be "your #1 with a bullet".
So if you like Fall Out Boy but are looking for something a little less sugary, here is your download. Lying Is the Most Fun... and I Write Sins Not Tragedies (which has a lead in that reminds me of Danny Elfman) are really good and the rest of album is pretty tight too.
Fall Out Boy sound-alike but without the poser
I was a little cautious before listening to this CD because I had heard from my friends that this band sounded very similar to Fall Out Boy. And after the first couple songs, I definetely agreed. What made me still want to listen and deem them free of the 'poser' title was the.. music. Panic! has a techno vibe and I definetely like the violin and piano thats sometimes in the background. It's refreshing in such a techy world. The songs are catchy, and they make you wish you knew the words. They deserve to be big in the future... so buy their album :)
Almost Perfect!
I absolutely LOVE this CD. Here's a breakdown of all the songs and which ones are best though.(Even though the entire CD is amazing!)
1.Introduction-A little pointless, but I like how it contains part of the music from Track 12. Don't buy it though unless you buy the whole CD.
2.The Only Difference Betweeen Martydom and...-I love this song. One of the most upbeat and danceable.
3.London Beckoned..-About my 3rd favorite. It's a fun song to headbang to and is very catchy.
4.Nails for Breakfast..- A song about a hospice-the techno beat is very unique and cool though
5.Camisado-I think this is the most mainstream sounding song on the cd...does remind me a bit of Fall Out Boy's A Little Less Sixteen Candles
6.Time to Dance-I really haven't listened to this track as much as the rest, but the lyrics are great, especially the "shotgun wedding" part.
7.Lying is the Most Fun a Girl can Have..-My second favorite. Yes, it's about sex and a little dark, but don't hold that against this track. Great breakup song for those of us that are confident.
8. Intermission-Again, pointless, but likeable
9.But It's Better When We Do-Strippers...but somehow P!ATD makes it classy
10.I Write Sins Not Tragedies-I like the beginning part but I think it's overplayed. Catchy, however.
11.I Constantly Thank God..-For some reason I found it extremely awesome. I kept playing it to hear Brendon(The lead singer for you new to the band) scream "Douse the light, we sure are in for a show tonight"
12. There's A Good Reason-Tied with Lying for my second favorite. So extrordinarly catchy! I love the 1920's feel. Very unique and one of the greatest songs on Fever.
13.Build God-My favorite! About affairs and religion, but my favorite part is probably when it samples Favorite Things
Overall, buy the CD! Wonderful and creative. Not wasting your 9.99!
