For his debut album, Wayne Brady brings together a range of different material, all delivered with his signature charm. “I Ain’t Movin’” is a sixties throwback that feels like a milder version of Gnarls Barkley, while the acoustic ballad “Sweetest Berry” draws from Babyface. On his cover of “A Change Is Gonna Come” Brady delivers a nearly spotless imitation of Sam Cooke’s vocal — evidently his comedian’s knack for impersonation has helped him with his music. The other two covers are standouts: Brady brings out the jazzy swing in Stevie Wonder’s 1981 hit “All I Do,” while his version of the Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love” reinvents the song as understated gospel, complete with gentle organ. For all the different flavors he attempts on A Long Time Coming, Brady is most at home on “All Naturally,” “F.W.B.,” and the infectious “Ordinary,” contemporary soul songs in the mold of his heroes, Luther Vandross and Brian McKnight.

Finally!!!
This is a great album from start to finish. Sad though that 99.9% of people will never hear it due to the crappy promoting that great albums like this always seem to have (i.e. Remy Shand). I mean if Lil Wayne can sell 1 million in a week then an album with actual talent should sell 1 million in a day. This is a breath of fresh air for anyone who is tired of mass media music. This has a Brian McKnight type feel to it but to me just seems like it's a little more easier to listen to then most McKnight albums. Wayne transends musical barriers as his talents are extremely well showcased in this debut album. Wayne first showcased his vocal talent on the song Beautiful ft. Jim Brickman. He has come along way, and should be considered a serious artists that is here to stay. If you love good R&B then stop reading these reviews, and get this.
Wayne Brady drops his cornball steez.
You have to appreciate R&B/Soul to realize Wayne put his foot down on the debut. Album is well put together and draws on his personal experience in relationships. Track #11 Beautiful Ugly is my favorite (How can someone so beautiful, be so ugly.. so deceitful..). His cover of Stevie Wonder's All I do is well done, as his cover of Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come. F.W. B (Friends with Benefits) is nice. All Naturally is perfect for a bedroom playlist. You and Me is obviously written about his divorce to Mandie Taketa and about his daughter. Great tribute song to have on your first album.
I know he's known for his soft persona... but honestly this album surprised me. And I strongly give it 5 stars. It may not be for everyone or anyone who likes what is passing as R&B today.... but if you're over 21 (mentally that is)... you should dig it.
