So today I picked up copies of both halves of Showbread's new dual album, Anorexia Nervosa. While I was a little annoyed that there were TWO that I had to buy, I decided it'd pay off with the logic that I was getting two albums equally as good. So far Anorexia is the only segment I've heard, but here's what it is:

Joshua Porter (A.K.A. Josh Dies) is a very talented writer. If you haven't read his novel "The Spinal Cord Perception" yet, you should pick it up. It's a great read. But anyway, novelist Josh returns in this album to aid vocalist Josh in telling a deeply profound story via two mediums. Literature and music. The concept is pretty simple: read, and listen. While following along with the story can sometimes be a little frustrating, the effect works nicely. And either way, Anorexia is a rock opera that conveys it's story more clearly with more meaning than any other rock opera has done before. (Ex: Coheed and Cambria, Green Day, My Chemical Romance).

Musically, Anorexia is a wiiiiild album. The songs take twists and turns in ways that you'd never expect, functionioning ala "No Sir, Nhilism Is Not Practical" which for many fans is an amazing return to roots. "The Journey" is a nice starter track, with Showbread being typical Showbread with the extents of some nu-metal roots. The album picks up from there, bringing the chaotic screaming and wild musicals back. It slows to an acoustic track, and picks up again.

For old fans of Showbread, think the class and cleaniness of Age of Reptiles, combined with the chaotic talents found on Nhilism. You''ve got something brand new, and completely uncomparable. Showbread has really pulled it off this time.

First of all, Do Not buy the album from itunes. buy the CD

As part one of the "Anorexia Nervosa" story, Anorexia delivers a unique listening experience that you will not find now adays (as well does Nervosa). Anorexia utilizes both disturbing and beautiful lyrics and sound effects that coincide perfectly with the Storyline featured in the Liner Notes. Which is why I urge you to buy the physical CD of both albums, so you can enjoy the full experience. Showbread has achieved a Mozart of the Senses with Anorexia-Nervosa.
