Confused Listener

First, let me start by saying that I own all HOL's released material. Since the days of Greg Giuffria when I thought this band would be the next Angel I kept tabs on HOL and have enjoyed their music. I have to say that Anthology has left me somewhat confused at what the direction was to be on this release. The cd contains a mixture of HOL standards plus a sprinkling of material that is either new, or unreleased extras from other works. Of the older material, Wanna Be Loved and Under Blue Skies are obvious additions to any HOL "greatest or Anthology" package, but I disagree with including Kiss of Fire and Looking For Strange which in my opinion don't measure up on this disc. Most of the new material is up to HOL standards and I am really liking the guitar work on the bluesy number Beyond the Pale. Hero's Song and Hold Back the Night are excellent "power ballad" type of songs and if we could turn back time to the 80's would probably hear these on radio. Dangerous Woman and Bad Bones are hearty rockers that HOL fans will truely love to hear at a live show in the event that a tour backs up this release. Overall, I'm don't understand any Anthology album where one third of the music is newly released material. Either make a new lp or put together a real "best of or Anthology."

u pik it

The original "cant find my way from these guys really ripped. This seems to be a watered down version. Starts out good but looses steam. Liked the original much better. Who played the guitars on this now and then??

"Re-Recorded" Anthology - buyer beware!

This is not the HOL anthology everyone was hoping for since these are NOT the original recorded versions we all know. These tracks were re-recorded by the new lineup of HOL not the classic lineup from the first 2 cds (HOL / Sahara) or even the 3rd (Demons Down). Always be very cautious buying ANYTHING from Deadline Records since they don't get clearance and rights to the original recordings but have artists re-record their own material (or cover someone else's material). This way it is easier to get clearance for a cover version. Seek out the original CD's of House Of Lords, Sahara & Demons Down and you won't be disappointed. I Tunes are you listening?!

Biography

Formed: 1986

Genre: Metal

Years Active: '80s, '90s

House of Lords' foundations lay in Giuffria, a melodic rock band led by titular keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, best known for their Top 30 hit "Call to the Heart." After being dropped by MCA following the failure of its second album, Silk and Steel, the band started demoing songs for a tentative third album. While shopping for a new deal, the band caught the attention of Gene Simmons, who happened to be starting his own label at the time, Simmons Records. The famous bassist enjoyed what he heard, but...
