iTunes Review

Thirty seconds into “Harmonium,” the song that opens Rogue Wave’s third album Asleep at Heaven’s Gate, it becomes clear that they’ve gelled as a band and are eager to make a statement. Where their first two albums (both lo-fi, low-key gems) sounded loose, off-the-cuff, and vulnerable, the band is all polished precision here. Singer and songwriter Zack Rogue has a knack for melody and big hooks and Asleep is loaded with both (“Chicago X 12” is one of his best songs yet). With the exception of a pair of lovely, relatively subdued and straight-forward ballads (“Christian in Black,” “Missed”) the rest of the songs are honed to the finest detail, whether it’s a single ringing guitar note, a flourish of shimmering cymbals, or a piano chord drenched in reverb. By embracing the studio in a big way, they’ve created a dense, effects-laden sound heavy with overdubbed spacey guitars and dreamy keyboards, a liberal use of echo on the vocals, and lots of layered harmonies, and the often gorgeous results mark an interesting new direction for this promising band.

Underappreciated Masters of Contemporary Music

Rogue Wave blew me away the first time I heard them. It was the single Eyes from the movie Just Friends. That one song was so good, that I felt obligated to get one of Rogue Wave's albums. I chose this one.
At first, I didn't quite like it. I was a little puzzled. It was a little slower than Eyes and didn't have the same immediacy as the single that had so transfixed me.
After a few listens however, I was hooked. Rogue Wave is truly one of the best little known artists out there today. Chicago x 12 is by far the best song from this album, from any of their albums, and could quite possibly be one of my favorite songs of all time.
Buy this album now! Every song is great in its own unique way. It just takes a couple of listens to get it.

Two words.. Holy Wow..

I was breathless when I stumbled upon this group. I've heard "Eyes" on so many movies & shows that I decided I had to check out the rest of their discology. Wow.. I am so glad I did. Their music reminds of a tugboat chugging down a serene canal.. just doing its job. The guitar extensions and mellow ambiance really bring together a well played disc. "Lake Michigan" is a great track as well as "Ghost" but the cd really speaks to anyone with an open indie heart. So preview the whole cd and splurge for it all!

A disappointment

this album hardly lives up to the greatness of Descended Like Vultures and Out of the Shadow, the later being my favorite-Falcon Settles Me, i think, is their best song. Despite this, the album itself is good and i recommend adding it to your music collection
