iTunes Review

What happens when folk-rock ingénues grow up? Many wondered what direction Leigh Nash would take after the demise of the much-loved Sixpence None The Richer. She answered with her 2006 solo debut Blue On Blue, and rather than returning to the occasionally esoteric musings of her former band, Nash deals with issues of faith and family in more everyday terms. The singer’s marriage and recent motherhood is reflected in the album's warm tone. Produced by longtime Sarah McLachlan collaborator Pierre Marchand, Blue On Blue has a billowy sound that blends electronic atmospherics with acoustic guitar and piano, setting off Nash’s softly expressive vocals nicely and catching the right note of pensive yearning in tracks like “Along The Wall” and “Nervous In The Light Of Dawn.” A Jamaican rhythmic pulse drives “My Idea Of Heaven” and a semi-psychedelic tinge colors “Just A Little.” Such songs as “Ocean Size Love” illuminate the intersection of earthly romance and Christian grace. Appealingly melodic with bittersweet undertones, Blue On Blue re-introduces Nash as an artist of charm and conviction.

Surprisingly Good

To be honest, I was heistant to buy this CD, because sometimes when I buy the CD the songs sound incredibly different than the sample clips. In fact, the same thing happened with this CD as well. The difference, however, is that it was surprisingly much better than I anticipated. I was actually convinced that I would hate a lot of the songs, but liked enough to want to buy the CD, yet, it turns out, some of the songs I thought I would hate, I actually like a lot. For example, I was not all that impressed with the little clip of "Never Finish" but when I listened to the entire thing it sounded so much better than I could have imagined. One song that really surpised me was "Ocean Size Love." Again, I thought it was a catchy little song from the clips, but the clip does not even do it justice, it is such a beautiful and amazing song. Truth be told, unless you listen to the CD, you just won't be able to understand why this CD is getting such great reviews.

I like it a lot and am very happy with my purchase. I highly recommend "Ocean Size Love," "Along the Wall," "Nervous In the Light of Dawn," and "More of It." 5/5

Voice of an angel

Her Music (especially in the song "along the wall") has a beautiful, hypnotic melody that I just can't get enough of.

Leigh at her best!

This album is beautiful!!!!!! Leigh's voice is gorgeous, angelic and bittersweet. She's my favorite modern singer, because her voice holds that special magic like singers had in the '60s and '70s . . . mellow, pretty, haunting. You won't be able to resist the fun and friendly 'Angel Tonight', or not get swept away by the imagery on the folk/popish 'Nervous in the Light of Dawn'. 'Cloud Nine' is a great driving song, and 'Just A Little' is lovely. My favorite track is definitely 'Never Finish' . . . a guitar soft/pop masterpiece. Her voice sends you to that special place, and that's hard to find today.

Years Active: '00s

Leigh Nash is perhaps best known as the pixie-like singer with the heavenly voice from Sixpence None the Richer, a CCM group that enjoyed considerable fame in 1999 with the single "Kiss Me." She had started the band at age 14 with schoolmate Matt Slocum. Nearly half her life later, at age 27, Sixpence None the Richer split, albeit on good terms. Before the band called it quits, Nash had often considered working solo, if and when she would be band-less. Though the end of Sixpence left her a little...
