Album Review
The Rocket Summer is Bryce Avary, a phenomenally gifted 20-year-old whose self-produced, self-recorded debut album finds him playing all the instruments and singing (almost) all the parts to songs that, naturally, he wrote himself, and that sound like the product of someone who's had 20 years to hone his craft. Since Avary presumably spent at least part of his childhood engaged in activities other than studying the art of songwriting, this album is a phenomenal achievement. It proceeds in something like sonata form, beginning with a few headlong blasts of pure power pop cheer, then slowing down in the middle for a handful of ballads, then picking up the tempo again moderately toward the end. If there's a complaint to be made about these songs, it's that sometimes they seem just a bit too crammed full of hooks and ideas, but that ebullient energy is a significant part of Avary's charm. "Cross My Heart" and "Saturday" are two of the most infectiously joyful songs released in recent memory, while the gently preachy "What We Hate We Make" actually incorporates a chorus of sixth-graders without inducing the gag reflex at all. Avary's voice is sweet and clear, and his playing — on all instruments — is absolutely solid and assured. This is, quite simply, an astounding album, and it's a little bit scary to contemplate what the next one will sound like.

Great C.D... :)
by Music_Lover_ForevSo i found out about this CD from one of my friends who was listening to T.V. family, and i Just looked them up and fell in love. I defenitly recommend it, the lyrics to me... and a very important part of a song and thats basically why i like them. They have great beats and great lyrics. "Cross my heart", "T.V. family", "Saturday" favorite songs.
I LOVE THE ROCKET SUMMER
by i love these guys! This album, along with all the others is the most amazing music I've ever heard in my life. The lyrics are so deep and true. I definately suggest buying this, you'll get hooked!
AMAZING!
by samisageniusThis album is amazing. Seriously. All the songs rated on a scale of one to ten:
Cross my Heart: it's amazing, with great lyrics and a really great chorus. 9/10
Skies So Blue: I love this song it's always stuck in my head! How did he write these lyrics? 8/10
This is Me:I love the piano part, it's definately a radio song, but not my favorite. It's a bit monotonous. 7/10
Saturday:An awesome, upbeat, song with awesome lyrics. 8/10
She's My Baby: I love love love love it. It's such a beautiful love song. 8/10
That's So You: One of my favorites on the album. The recording quality isn't as great as the other songs (it's a bit echoey) but it just makes it seem more intimate and emotional. 10/10
Mean Thoughts and Cheap Thoughts: So great, I can't even describe it. I love the lyrics, the music, and the piano part. (don't I always, being a pianist myself.)
Movie Stars and Supermodels: It's a very upbeat, feel-good-song that has a great message and is constantly on replay. 10/10
What We Hate We Make: Probably the only song where a sixth-grade choir isn't cheesy or makes the song weird. It's very gorgeous and lovely and it's one of my all time faves by Bryce.
T.V Family: My favorite song by the Rocket Summer of all times from all three albums. I'm constantly singing, learned it on acoustic guitar and on piano (wish i could play drums) and it's always on replay. It's been played exactly 369 times on my iPod, not to mention thousands on the CD. And i've only had the album on iTunes for a few weeks. He's so passionate on this song. 11/10
Definately Buy: Cross My Heart, That's So You, Movie Stars and Super Models, Mean Thoughts and Cheap Shots, and T.V Family.
And get the other 3 albums too!
