iTunes Review

While Oasis has always been ruled by the Gallagher Brothers, Liam and Noel, in recent years the band has transformed into a democracy with each band member contributing a song or two. 2008’s Dig Out Your Soul features six from Noel that range from the trademark Oasis bombast of “Waiting for the Rapture” to the bluesy kitsch of “Bag It Up” and “(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady,” while his “Soldier On” and guitarist Gem Archer’s “To Be Where There’s Life” do their best to shuttle off into psychedelia with a slight taste of Indian raga shading the Brit-Pop wallop. Liam’s Lennon-like ballad (what would an Oasis album be without some nod towards the Beatles?) “I’m Outta Time” is affecting and for pure classic Oasis, brother Noel’s “The Shock of the Lightning” and “Falling Down” come closest to their wall of sonic bliss. The entire album is produced to loud, numbing effect, the dynamics deliberately sacrificed. Oasis prefer to overwhelm the listener with wave after wave of unrelenting verve and style.

Waste of great talent

I love Oasis. They're the most inspiring, hooky, lyrically and rhythmically savvy band to come along since The Beatles split up. I especially love their old stuff, like "Definitely Maybe", "(What's the Story) Morning Glory", and most favorably "Be Here Now". Those were great albums, and every song on them was great. However, their latest installment "Dig Out Your Soul" was lacking. I feel like I should've liked this a lot more than I did, and as I listened to bland song after bland song, I thought to myself, this isn't Oasis. This is Oasis buying into the mainstream, and it's not working for them. This isn't rock 'n' roll. In fact, I don't really know just what it is. I like it, but not that much.

The only two standout tracks on the album were "Shock of the Lightning", which I've loved long since I bought the entire album, and "Nature of Reality", which contained riffs reminiscent of their best moments, the '90s.

But then again, I've only listened to the album once. Maybe it'll grow on me over time. At least hopefully...

This album grows on you the more you listen to it. At first, I wasn't crazy about it and felt let down by the Fab 5, but now I take all that back. 'The Turning' has to be my favorite along with 'Falling Down'! None the less, it's a great rock n roll record! Also if you like Oasis, I just got into a band called "Stereolover", that I think is gonna make a big splash soon, or atleast I hope. Check em out!!
Rock on Oasis, and come to the States soon!!
