Brilliant Set 4-Star, Hampered by iTunes
by Davomatic21I'm not sure how many people have to complain before iTunes hears the message: Hire someone for your Dance music department who listens to Dance music. To begin with, Ferry Corsten is a brilliant DJ who is not credited as the artist on this album (a MAJOR marketing error). Moreover, I foolishly bought this truncated version of the real album for the same price that I subsequently downloaded the high-quality, gapless full album from Ultra Records' website. These files have a two-second gap, which interrupts what this music is all about: emergent creativity, flow. The album is a delightfully crafted set, put together by one of the world's best DJ's, but this version does quite little to communicate that fact. iTunes needs to hire some serious DJ consultants to fix an ongoing problem with their presentation of the genre. DJ compilations need to be sold as mixed sets, without silent gaps on the tracks. As a DJ, I will purchase records that are not already featured on major compilations, so there is little need for unmixed versions of these albums. We need properly mixed compilations that are properly uploaded for sale. iTunes is an incredible marketplace that needs some help in the Dance arena, and this little album is another example of it.
