Album Review

Love and Rockets' Earth, Sun, Moon reins in the rampant excesses of Express while remaining psychedelic; the near white-out of the cover gives a clue to the music, as many of the songs emerge from a soup of white-noise guitar distortion. Much of the record addresses, in its nebulous fashion, hope and disappointment; the title track and "Youth" are two of their most simple, yet most affecting songs. Not a "normal" pop record by any means, it's more straight-ahead than their previous work and includes the upbeat single "No New Tale to Tell," a college radio hit that set the stage for the band's popular breakthrough a year later.

A Blissful Look Back To 80s Alt Rock..at its Finest

This is some of the best 80s alt rock you'll ever hear. Just check out the following:

No New Tale To Tell
Here On Earth
Mirror People
Welcome Tomorrow
Lazy
Waiting for The Flood

If you aren't convinced then, I don't know what else to tell you. 80s or not, this is one awesome band. Bauhaus was just the beginning. The talent of these three individuals is limitless at best. If you like this, then go get the rest of their stuff. If anything, definitely check out "Express". That whole cd rocks. This album and that one are their very best.

Takes me back to my college days...

Alternately rockin' (No New Tale to Tell), delicate (Rainbird) and mellow-psychedelic (The Telephone is Empty and Earth, Sun, Moon), one may enjoy this album in it's entirety. I have done so many, many times. Love the guitar, and Daniel Ash's echo-ey vocals.

No New Tale to Tell

I still have a picture from a live show. One of the greatest songs ever written.

Biography

Formed: 1984

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Love and Rockets comprised guitarist/vocalist Daniel Ash, bassist/vocalist David J, and drummer Kevin Haskins, all former members of the pioneering goth band Bauhaus. However, the group didn't sound very similar to its first incarnation. Instead, Love and Rockets emphasized the strains of psychedelia and glam rock that appeared underneath Bauhaus' gloomy drone, adding elements of pop songcraft, folk, and R&B, as well as cryptic, self-important lyrics. For most of the late '80s, the group had...
