iTunes Review

Marc Bolan was a superstar in England, beloved by rockers and little kids alike. In America, T. Rex - basically a vehicle for Bolan's songs and glam-icon persona - was the harbringer of one much adored classic rocker, "Bang a Gong (Get It On)." It was spun off Electric Warrior, one of the most distinctive albums of pre-punk British rock ever. Bolan came on like a sexy sprite, crooning beneath a bebop moon and throwing his hands in the air in exasperation to announce that "Life's a Gas." The record's ad hoc feeling, mix of electric and acoustic guitars, and Bolan's irresistible vocals (he's like some glitter beatnik babbling his way through "Rip Off") make it a statement both of its time and way beyond it. This special edition adds six bonus tracks to the original, including the immaculate "Raw Ramp," plus an entertaining contemporary interview with Bolan.

A fantastic album that brought Tyranasaurus Rex into the electric age, not sure what they are talking about when they mention a spilt from his bongo player but he was with the band up until Marc's death. A truly funky, cosmic, rock album. I grew up with T. Rex and loved everything they did even in the early years. You now hear his music, Bang A Gong, 20th Centry Boy, in advertisments today. Take a look at the ITunes essentials for T.Rex it's realy groovy man.

Years Active: '60s, '70s

Initially a British folk-rock combo called Tyrannosaurus Rex, T. Rex was the primary force in glam rock, thanks to the creative direction of guitarist/vocalist Marc Bolan (born Marc Feld). Bolan created a deliberately trashy form of rock & roll that was proud of its own disposability. T. Rex's music...
