Despite Negative Comments, This Was George's Song Before it was Kenny's

Some people have been saying that "George stole Kenny's song"... when in fact, George recorded the song first. Kenny heard George perform this song and immediately told George how great it was. Mr. Strait immediately told Kenny that he could record it for himself since he loved it so much. So, that's the story. I love this song, I think the words are awesome.

Better Than Kenny's

Mr. Strait does it alot better. And for those wondering why kenny did it then he did it , is because George originally was going to release this song with the album troubadour but he didn't and kenny recorded it. Then i guess he wanted to do it too and here it is and it is alot better. (if you dont believe me about all that look it up on wikipedia.)

Why he's the King of Country music

Let me first say that I AM A KENNY CHESNEY FAN! But, moreso, I'm a George Strait fan. This is coming from a person who owns every single album from both artists. With that in mind, George Strait's version is superior. For the record, George DID record it first for his Troubadour album down at Jimmy Buffett's recording studio. It ultimately didn't make the cut, Kenny got a hold of it, loved it, and George gave his blessing for Kenny to record it. While I do greatly enjoy Kenny's version (and he very much so makes it a true classic Kenny Chesney song), George is such a superior vocalist, a true seasoned professional, and the subtle nuances he brings to the delivery of the lyrics, along with Tony Brown's always spot-on production, make this a fantastic cut. Makes you wonder where they could've placed it on the album.

And I think we all agree the the video for Troubadour is fantastic!

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Out of all the new country singers to emerge in the early '80s, George Strait stayed the closest to traditional country. Drawing from both the honky tonk and Western swing traditions, Strait didn't refashion the genres; instead, he revitalized them for a new decade. In the process, he became one of the most popular and influential singers of the decade, sparking...
