Album Review
The impact of Faust cannot be overstated; their debut album was truly a revolutionary step forward in the progress of "rock music". It was pressed on clear vinyl, packaged in a clear sleeve, with a clear plastic lyric insert. The black X-ray of a fist on the cover graphically illustrates the hard core music contained in the grooves, an amalgamation of electronics, rock, tape edits, acoustic guitars, musique concrete, and industrial angst. The level of imagination is staggering, the concept is totally unique and it's fun to listen to as well.
Customer Reviews
this is honest to god a classic album
Most of you won't get it, but truth be told most of you won't get much... Not to say I'm not in that category...just the other spectrum...uhm... hmmm its pretentious music, but its really really good, and for those of you who are into something different, this is for you.
The Beginning of Industrial
Heaven only knows the popular and accessible; the constant stream of tuneful, danceable and homoginized ga-ga that common folk consume constantly. It's commercial, it's consumable, and it
always covers and hides innovators like Faust.
The men who literally began Industrial music shine in their debut like a solar flare. Intense. Innovative. Individual. and blissfully non-commercial, This music lasts while boy bands, big hair kids, and teen idols disappear. BUY IT, AND BE SET FREE!!!
This is amazing to me...
Many of you will not understand this album (that is not a bad thing, just not your type), but for those of you who gave it a few more listens, and suddenly understood how truly significant and mind-blowing this album is, I congratulate you! When I first heard of this album, I read many mixed reviews on this. Some people said that this was their favorite of all time, and it was something that should be sought after by everyone, and others said it was just a bunch of sounds and nothing is really coherent. Well, to be honest, both are correct! This album SHOULD be sought after by everyone (for at least one listen) just so they can understand WHY music is the way it is, and how THIS album changed many things in the industry. This is (IMHO) by far Faust's strangest album, but to me, it is their greatest. When listening to it the first time (and for me several times) you will not be able to guess which sound they will convey next. As one review put it, "It sounds like Hell, and that's not a bad thing!" Everyone will view this album differently, but it is known that this album did affect artists such as Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, and maybe even some heavy ambient bands (without them even knowing it:).
Overall, give it at LEAST a shot (one time all the way through, no stops) and see what you think for yourself. If you aren't sure whether you will like it or not (the 30 second samples do nothing for this album), try to find it elsewhere, but I would still recommend buying it.
