iTunes Review

As the virtual godfathers of the UK’s late-‘70s-early ‘80s Goth movement, Bauhaus defined a cold, steely sound where gloom and doom were represented in pure sonic overkill and the life-is-pain vocal histrionics of singer Peter Murphy. Recorded in 18 days, 25 years after their last studio release, and planned as a posthumous reunion, 2008’s Go Away White is an intriguing addition to the band’s sparse catalog. At 10 songs and 49 minutes, it stands as a concise statement of purpose. “Saved” lurches with an ominous minimalism. “Too Much 21st Century” punches with a garage band’s force. “International Bulletproof Talent,” “Endless Summer of the Damned” and “Mirror Remains” catch glimpses of the band’s David Bowie influence alongside the musical values they championed back in their golden era. Go Away White is a sincere update from men who once created a seismic shift in underground music. Their revolution was won years ago; they now take their place as notable elder statesmen. The album comes with two videos taken from the band's legend-making Coachella performance, including the group's calling card, "Bela Lugosi's Dead" (performed by Peter Murphy while he was suspended upside down.)

Love it

After all these years they still got it. I only wish they would have toured for this album. No one has a voice like peter and still be able to wail like he does is awesome. A bauhaus fan till the end. It's what you would expect from them. Not at all disapointed. Endless summer of the dam is my fav from this CD. All other tracks are great too :)

Its not 1984—don't expect it. This is the evolution of Bauhaus—listen.

If youre expecting the Bauhaus of the past, get over it. You won't find it here. To those of us who've followed this band's members beyond Bauhaus, this album makes perfect sense. Bauhaus devolved into Dali's Car and Tones On Tail, and then Love and Rockets and Peter Murphy's solo efforts. Considering the evolution of those components, this album is a perfectly crafted Bauhaus album, circa 2008. I'm not giving it five stars because of that obvious evolution and the 25 year path that it has taken the band away from what a 1984-era album may have sounded like. 1983's Burning From the Inside was the obvious transition toward the sounds of Tones On Tail and Love and Rockets, as Murphy was absent for all the songwriting for that album. So you see, what you hear is Bauhaus—older, wiser and not even attempting to recapture something that is pointless to grasp for, because it was never there. Paths diverged toward disparate futures. Buy this and revel in the coalescence and evolution of one of the most influential, most misconstrued, most misinterpreted, and finally, most individually talented bands ever. You will not be disappointed—unless you think its 1984 and missed the last 25 years of the Haskins brothers, Daniel Ash, and Peter Murphy.

Very Impressed!

I have enjoyed Bauhaus since the very start. This new release has only made me appreciate them more. It is a great album. I am sort of glad they will bow down so they don't muck up a great career and discography with something forced. This was a real treat to listen to. The videos are great as well.

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Bauhaus are the founding fathers of goth rock, creating a minimalistic, overbearingly gloomy style of post-punk rock driven by jagged guitar chords and cold, distant synthesizers. Throughout their brief career, the band explored all the variations on their bleak musical ideas, adding elements of glam...
