It's.... Okay?
Some of the medleys seems odd choices... "I'll Get You/Imagine"? Really? However, others, such as "Tomorrow Never Knows/Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" are perfectly matched. Though there is one particular song that really irritates me... "The Word/We Can Work it Out". I love both original songs and the medley's okay, but... HE DIDN'T WRITE THOSE. They were written by his then-partner Paul McCartney with little to no input by him. Anyone who is even a passing fan of the original should know this. The vocal performances for the most part are alright, and the arangements are fairly good, but on a few songs the lack of back-up vocals is just unbearable. "Girl" should never, ever be done without the sarcastic back-ups.
The stand-outs on the album, though, are "Help" and "Johnny's an Angel". Help contains back-up vocals for some odd reason, and it's in the original tempo it was written in with some Chet Atkins-style fingerpicking for the guitar solo. I quite like it, actually. And then "Johnny's an Angel". As I cannot find any other information on this song, I assume it's an original written about John Lennon's death. It's a very sad song with many references to his life (though one, "turn left at Greenland", was a quote from George Harrison...) and a very nice performance.
My final decision would be that anyone looking for some nice mellow covers of John Lennon work should definitely purchase the album, or at least "Help", while a casual John Lennon fan with a dollar to spend should definitely purchase "Johnny's an Angel".
