iTunes Review
Jamie Lidell’s 2005 album Multiply presented the kind of 180-degree turnaround that only occurs in 1 out of 1000 music careers. The former laptop artist re-invented himself as a 21st century soulman, reconfiguring Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and Ray Charles into a futuristic runway show bursting with positive energy and musical cleverness. The album was showered with praise but it was unable to find the mainstream audience it so obviously coveted, and so clearly deserved. Lidell has upped the ante with Jim, making his sophomore soul masterpiece even more palatable to Top 40 fans. “All I Wanna Do” has the sultry warmth of a Norah Jones ballad, while “Another Day” should appeal to Amy Winehouse and Stevie Wonder fans alike. It's clear that Lidell has a feel for good groove and good sound design, and after hearing the dancefloor mastery of “Little Bit of Feel Good” and “Figured Me Out” one can’t help but feel that this man should be working with Madonna and Janet Jackson. Lidell’s greatest trick remains the way he can take the simple Sixties soul premise of “Where D’You Go” or “Out of My System” and turn it into something that feels wholly, utterly of the moment.

Jim Jams
This is a funky chunk of soul right here. And, forget about the labels of "Blue Eyed Soul" or whatever. This is SOUL music to the core. Period.
There are so many great songs here that borrow a little from the Stax/Memphis sound to Motown to Prince to Marvin to early Stevie to Jimi and on and on--sometimes in the same song!
Definitely check out the tambourine-shaking, gospel-inflected "Another Day," the "Get On The Good Foot"-influenced "Little Bit of Feel Good," the bootylicious "Figured Me Out," the "If You Want Me To Stay"-homage "Green Light," and the day-at-the-beach that is "Rope of Sand."
Even better than "Multiply" if I say so myself.
★♥STUNNING!!!♥★
What can I say about this dude? He's brilliant! This English boy gets down with a kind of blue-eyed-soul that makes 9 out of 10 American R&B artists look like unimaginative saps. I gotta' agree with one of the other reviewers when they said if you haven't heard this man yet, drop everything and listen! If you dig Amy W and Duffy, this man is gonna' make your day! No matter what he does, he makes it sound good and easy! And don't think he's stuck in the 60's, he's full of surprises! A truly great artist!
Still being amazed!
This record is by no means an extension of Multiply, rather a continuation in the Metamorphosis of Lidell as an R&B powerhouse. He played with the notion of an electronic styled, stax influenced R&B that was like a mashup, and on Jim, he cuts away the modern flourishes, slips on the charm like a well fitting coat and sings his head off on all the tracks. Excellent from start to finish, the highlights are Another Day, All I Wanna Do, and Little Bit Of Feel Good. Excellent piece of work, and stellar for an outstanding upcoming star!
