Interesting.
The Jazz Pistols bring a very interesting approach to the contemporary jazz scene. Their musicianship and individual talent is outstanding and are they truly an inspiration for anyone seeking to better themselves at instruments of ANY kind. Their live sound is as close to perfect as a live sound can be. As a drummer, i must comment on the Jazz Pistols' drummer as he can be a tad bit over energetic and zealous in places that don't call for it. There are very soothing ambient melodic sections in which he for some reason injects a very frenzied drum idea into and it can ruin the moment created by the strings. Also, the band sometimes seems to vamp too many melodic ideas for just a tad too long which can lose the interest of the listener if kept up. Other than that, this band is excellent and their skill exceeds that of a majority of mainstream bands. They back up their orchestrations with flawless execution. Very skillfull, very interesting and very insipiring. Two thumbs up, and a reccomendation of purchase to anyone interested in jazz or prog.
Great Find!
I found this band using Pandora on my iPhone. This is a very talented group and their musicianship and attention to detail is superb. I've always liked bands like Weather Report, and this seems to have distilled some of those best features into a great sound. This is proof that free music is economically viable; I am buying this album after having never heard of the band until a week ago. Way to go Pandora & iTunes, I've found a new favorite band!
