Jihad Jerry: Speaking Out with Funky, Ear-pleasing Danceable Rock!

There are alot of circumstances in the world we live in right now that make many of us want to stand on a rooftop and scream at the top of our lungs: "What is wrong here? Does anybody else see the absurdities pervading our everyday lives?" Well not many of us possess the musicality and literary prowess to intelligently ask these questions to a mass audience through song. On "Mine is Not a Holy War", Co-Founder of Devo Gerald V. Cassale, created some catchy, powerful, energetic and fun rock music that functions as a great and entertaining work of art, while at the same time creates awareness about the political and social problems of our time. Jihad Jerry, the concept and character Gerald created to be the voice of his ideas, is a non-threatening, easy to relate to, jovial fundamentalist, that can bust out political satire with the scrutiny and timing of a standup comic.
But don't think Jihad Jerry is simply a commentator on his soap box. With the help of his band The Evil Doers, Jerry's satire is communicated perfectly through 12 girthy and in your face rock songs. The music has strong undertones of classic rock, metal, dance/electricm, progressive rock, and gospel. Most tracks feature great harmonies performed my some stellar female vocalists. All the instrumentation, arrangements, and song structures are smooth and powerful. Each song has a strong ryhthmic foundation, and the melodic and lyrical hooks hit you in the face at just the right times. But what else would you expect from a band that contains three other members of DEVO (Mark Motherbaugh ,Bob Mothersbaugh and Robert Casale), as well as drummer Josh Freese who has worked with the Vandals, Sting, Nine Inch Nails, and the Vandals. Great album guys! Keep up the good work!

FANTASTIC ALBUM FROM GERALD V!!!

You may have heard some of these hits in their previous incarnation as Devo songs (Beehive, I Been Refused, Find Out, I Need A Chick) or even mutated by Devo 2.0, but here they are in full blown fashion by none other than Devo co-founder Gerald V. Casale! I Been Refused is worth the price of the full download alone. Yahoo to Jihad Jerry!

Brilliant!

There is a lot of passion and creativity behind this album, and it shows.
The Devo covers are great, especially the last track, which happens to be my favorite Devo song. (I'm female, btw.)
This is one of those albums that is more profound than it appears to be at first. To me, that's the sign of a truly great album.
