iTunes Review

Is it possible to fall in love in a swarming pit? Taking Back Sunday’s wall of guitars, revealing lyrics and wailing choruses not only make it possible but inevitable. TBS create the kind of explosive, four-on-the-floor hard rock kissed with passionate (but not emo) pop that appeal to both hardened souls and sensitive blog types. New Again spreads the appeal even farther, documenting more of TBS’s awesome power with vocalist Adam Lazzara at his most candid. There are a few changes — the departure of guitarist Fred Mascherino and the addition of Matt Fazzi, a shot at three-part harmonies, a bass solo on “Carpathia” — but the energy is distinctly TBS: pure and primal. “Everything Must Go” appears to be the newest anthem to stack on the TBS woodpile. “Capital M-E” is a not-so-veiled shot at Mascherino (who famously revealed to Newsday the band was “more about cooking food than making music”). “Sink Into Me” is the big single with all upgrades firing on all cylinders. New Again breathe new life into a band ready for its second half.

are you serious!?

come on people! stop being such taking back sunday "homers". i've been a hard core tbs fan since tell all your friends. that said, this is their worst album yet. it just isn't the same caliber as their past albums.
sure there's some change to be expected, bands tend to do that naturally, plus replacing a key member.
honestly, i wasn't too worried about replacing fred, since they had already been through that once before when fred replaced john. they managed to hit that one out of the park, so why really would this be any different? oh but different it was.
where i started having doubts was when sink into me came out. typically, the first single is supposed to be one of the strongest songs on an album. stack that up against all of their past singles, and it's pretty weak. then i saw them live and, again, wasn't impressed. matt can't or didn't even yell the "i've got it baaaad!" at the end of decade under the influence.
their use of dual vocals where really what gave them an original and great sound. now that's gone. there isn't really an original sound here anymore. i feel that this may be the begining of the end for one of my favorite bands.
i'm still a fan and always will be, which leads me to expect more and not be satisfied when presented with something less than stellar.
they can do better and i expect that.
oh, and nothing on here sounds like "old tbs" besides adam's voice sometimes.

okay...

those who say they are true fans of tbs since tell all your friends and where you want to be (I am one of those people), would know that adam even says he can't stand listening to those albums anymore. real musicians dont want to spew up the same record over and over. they want to create, reinvent themselves, keep progressing. thats something to be proud of. there is nothing wrong in moving in new directions. great artists, great MUSIC. way to go tbs on another album filled with heart and emotion.

Worst effort from Taking Back Sunday to date.

Without Fred Mascherino, Taking Back Sunday becomes the Adam Lazzara show. Not only are the songs missing those great, energetic dueling vocals that have come to define the Taking Back Sunday sound, but the lyrics have also taken a turn for the worse, becoming dulled down, generic, and predictable. I'm not a Taking Back Sunday hater, I actually LOVED "Where You Want To Be", and I even thought about 1/2 of "Louder Now" was great, but this album just made me want to turn it off. Do yourself a favor and download the 2 good songs on here: Sink Into Me and Summer, Man. Those 2 songs are the only reason this even got a 2 from me. Sink Into Me is an infectious, fast, furious rocker with an almost psychadelic or Egyptian tone to it. Summer, Man is a standard pop-rock song, but it's chorus is so infectious that you will definetly be rocking it this summer, man (sorry, that was way too cheesy...). Sorry Taking Back Sunday, but I guess you guys are just loosing your touch.
