iTunes Review

Somewhat after his days in the Jackson Five, but before the moon-walking breakthrough on the Motown 25 TV special, a more mature Michael Jackson emerged. It happened most definitvely on this album, as Jackson found his solo star identity — still lean and clean, but with a Quincy Jones-produced sheen. Dance-floor workouts such "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Working Day and Night," "Rock with You," and "Off the Wall" allowed Jackson to take his falsetto into uncharted waters. No Jackson album would be complete without a corny ballad, represented here by Jackson's fake sobs on "She's Out Of My Life." Off the Wall proves that before he actually branded himself The King Of Pop, he was undeniably all that, both slick and funky at the same time.

Off The Wall

Extrordinary album, Michael often said this album and "Thriller" were the happiest times musically for him. For me, "Off The Wall" and "Thriller" are two of his absolute best albums. The music brings back great memories and feelings, it's great music for all time. I love the subtle horn playing on "Rock With You," sweet and tight. That artist is Jerry Hey, an incredibly talented recording studio musician and former member of the band Seawind. I recognized his horn playing after I first heard the song a few times so many years ago. Very distinctive. They all no doubt had a rockin' time putting this album together back in the day. A wonderful and integral part of my huge music library. Definitely a music must have for just about everybody. "Off The Wall." Fantastic.
