Awesome guitar talent!

This guy does things with a guitar that are just unbelievable. If you read his bio you'll see that he is self taught which must have led to such ingenuity and uniqueness. I saw him play solo acoustic recently and was blown away. Then I saw him play with three other musicians (drums, sax and bass) and they were as good or better than any band I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. His song lyrics, his voice and his energy make you want to hear more and more of his stuff, no kidding. Love him.

Epic scope and unmatched musicianship

Beginning with "Little Big Men" in 2005 and continuing with "One Ticket, One Ride" in 2009, Geoff has expanded beyond core blues. He's not left the blues behind -- he couldn't even if he wanted to, and reminds you of his loyalties with the first track, "Sent to the Edge" -- but he demonstrates his growth and astonishing talent with each successive track.

Since purchasing "One Ticket, One Ride" in the spring of 2009 I've listened to it hundreds of times, and am still awestruck by the breadth and depth of songs such as "Bridge." At over six minutes, and employing a complex 7/4 time signature, this opus features strings arranged by his long-time collaborator Adrian Keating of the Sydney Lyric Orchestra.

Listen closely to the lyrics of the darkly rhythmic "Magic Belt" to sympathize with a super hero who's just simply tired of repeatedly saving the world.

"Dogwood Days" is a shining demonstration of Geoff's deft use of instrumental tracks to transition from one section of the album to another, in this case from "Bootbanger," a staple of his fantastic live performances when horns are available, to the almost-pop-like "Soul to Soul" (this is an original composition, not a remake of other well-known songs of the same name).

Those accustomed to Geoff's minimalist (yet fully entertaining) live performances with a guitar or two, drums, and keys will be astonished by the deft inclusion of strings, horns, and backing vocals. I've seen Geoff live scores of times over the years, listened to every album he's released (and a few he hasn't), and am absolutely blown away by the achievement of "One Ticket, One Ride."

Australian-born Geoff Achison earned a reputation in the mid-'90s as one of the more acclaimed young blues guitarists, including winning the Albert King Award for most promising guitarist in 1995, leading to an endorsement deal with Gibson Guitars. Born in Victoria, Achison made his way to Melbourne and learned the blues from local artists.
