Album Review
The premise of a cello-playing four piece (from Finland, no less) performing the music of Metallica may seem outrageous at first, but much of the metal gods' repertoire translates surprisingly well into this "classical" reading. And while Apocalyptica chooses to concentrate on more recent hits like "Enter Sandman," "Sad But True" and "Wherever I May Roam" for obvious commercial purposes, it is Metallica's earlier, more complex compositions, like "Master of Puppets," "Creeping Death," and "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," which actually work best in this scenario. The quartet's love and understanding of the music is the real key here, and their attention to detail and technically flawless performance will no doubt satisfy even the most skeptical of fans. And while it is unlikely that this album will interest non-Metallica fans, it obviously inspired the band themselves to explore the classical direction on their own terms with 1999's S&M album.

Former cover band, amazing now. Not great then.
by Music PhanacticalI would not have guessed that they were a former cover band that was like the vitamin string quartet. Anyway, I hate metallica so this is not good for me. But if u listen 2 their more modern instrumentals, like world's collide, you can really see how they evolve.
woah
by whatcanisaytoshowhowobbssessiveiamwithharrypotter?!?!nowordforit!!!okay so i play the cello, i have been for about 6 years now and i have never heard something as cool as this. i mean i've played the lame cello part in many cool orchestra pieces like pirates of the carribean, even some green day and other songs, but the cello is the only instrument here and it sounds amazing.
Apocalyptica's Non-Apocalypse
by ApocalypticaLoverThese guys are amazing! I'm younger and have just found an interest in Metallica a few years back. My ma got mad for me listening to Metallica, and my teacher (a fellow Metallica Lover) showed me these guys, and I've been hooked ever since. Metallica has been know to write complex rhythms, and Apocalyptica can separate the two guitars parts and spread it to four. I've been playing guitar for the past few years and Metallica is hard stuff to play, but these guys can pull it off and deserve a lot of credit for doing it.
