Customer Reviews

Great original guitar compositions

Jalan and Jim Hurst have the best plays of Nine Pound Hammer in existence.

Temperence Reel is presented here like a group passaround with every player doing his own interpretation except that Jalan does all the interpretations. Each one is unique and very clever and interesting. He makes no attempt to do what many do with this kind of original fiddle tune, which is to try to preserve the fiddle character and end up with neither a pleasant guitar piece nor a satisfying fiddle tune. It's guitar all the way.

Poor Boy Shanty just flows. You can't help but notice the ease that Jalan has with pieces like this, and you can feel the music just flow from his fingers.

The others don't quite measure up to these three, but there isn't a weak song among them.
