Your child will thank you 20 years later
As a child, I was always bored in school. Teachers were confused in kindergarten when I'd color everything around a fish, leaving the fish blank, from a simple 'color this fish' task. All the other children colored the same fish; I wanted to explore different routes. The same occurred a couple years later, when I figured that - when tasked to create a geology map using cutouts from paper - it would be more interesting to make a crater using the leftover rings of paper. Teachers were baffled, my mother thought me smart.
That said, she raised me on classical music, the most memorable for me being Peter and the Wolf. As a child I had the imagination Hollywood would kill for, vivid images in my head produced from this amazing work. My focus was crystal clear, and from that I learned to tell stories, to explain, to create.
Years later, I was bored in another class; the teacher was at a loss for what to do with me (I had completed my schoolwork as well as my homework while the lesson was still being taught). She knew I liked music, so she put me in the back of the room with a classic tape recorder (the kind with the big red button and the handle) loaded with Gershwin's greatest hits (Porgy & Bess, an American in Paris, etc.). My imagination soared again.
I thank my mother for choosing Peter and the Wolf (a different album at the time). I am determined my children will experience the same culture and broad-range (I forgot to mention my father exposed me to AC/DC, Jethro Tull, and more - my mother, Streisand, Pavarotti, and countless Beatles albums) of musical taste.
Trust me, your children will thank you, years after the tattoos, the student loans, the loans years after school, the forgotten birthdays and Mothers/Fathers days...

Claudio Abbado strikes again
Yes, this is the best recording of peter and the wolf ever. Claudio Abbado and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe is a match made in heaven. Sting is an intelligent narrator, using a different voice for each of the characters. the playing is magnificent.

I was incredibly excited to see this version of Peter and the Wolf here on iTunes. Thank you so much! This brings back a lot of memories of my mother playing this for me when I was a child. The music is beautiful and Sting is very articulate and charismatic in narration. This is hands down one of the best versions of Peter and the Wolf out today. I highly recommend it to all who want to open up their imagination and go on a journey through a classic tale. You will not be disappointed.
