Album Review

T-Pain caught Akon's attention when he released a version of "Locked Up" titled "I'm F***ed Up." When Akon heard T-Pain's voice and realized there was more depth to the version than the title implied, he got in contact with the Florida-based "rappa ternt sanga" (who also produces and writes) and signed him to his Jive-distributed Konvict Muzik label. Rappa Ternt Sanga, beyond containing a few strong tracks with plenty of range between them, shows promise. T-Pain has a seductive vocal style (he does sound somewhat similar to his mentor), plenty of effective hooks, and strong productions, but he presses too much when he tries to stick out lyrically. The craziest offense is "Studio Luv," in which he comes out sounding more than a little silly: "you remind me of a brand new saxophone," "your body's like a flute," "do you mind if I pluck up on your strings," "I would stroke your body like I do my keyboard." Another hindrance is the digital vocal processing that pops up as often as water droplets in R. Kelly tracks. Though this factor has brought about plenty of comparisons to Zapp's Roger Troutman (as in the electro-funk classic "More Bounce to the Ounce" and late-'80s slow jam favorite "I Want to Be Your Man"), Troutman used an actual vocoder (which produced a different-sounding effect), and T-Pain winds up sounding more like the Cher of "Believe." Had there been limited use of studio tricks and more guidance (as a new signee to a label with major distribution, T-Pain handles an inordinate amount of the writing and production duties), Rapper Ternt Sanga would've been a more-than-respectable debut. [A clean version of the disc was also made available.]

Best Debut Album I've Ever Heard!!!!!!!!!

by dededahaha

Most people know T-Pain for his guest hooks on “Low”, “Got Money”, and “Kiss Kiss”, but these are better:

1.)Rappa Tunrt Sanga (Intro): This is a very good rap about how T-Pain is a very different rapper. And he is! 4.5/5

2.) I’m Sprung: This is one of T-Pain’s more popular songs. It has good lyrics, a nice smooth beat, and the words flow nicely with the production. Good song here! 5/5

3.) I’m In Luv Wit A Dancer (feat Mike Jones): This is by far the most popular song on this album. T-Pain brings in Mike Jones, who adds a pretty good verse in at the end of the song. Good production and sound. But the lyrics are a little cheesy. 3.5/5

4.) Studio Luv: This is a good example of how creative and inventive T-Pain is. VERY original lyrics, the production is smooth and the chorus is outstanding. Very good. 5/5

5.) You Got Me (feat. Akon): Akon jumps in on this track, but he doesn’t help much. The beat is just a little too slow and both of their voices seem bored. It would put a club to sleep. 3/5

6.) Let’s Get It On: This is not T-Pain’s best work, but it is still ok. He sounds very much like a soul singer on this track, and the lyrics are not good. The production, however, is great. If your not really listening, this is very good song. 3.5/5

7.) Como Estas (feat. Taino): This is another example of T-Pain’s brilliance. Very good lyrics, a different beat to the song and Taino does a good job on his verse. 4/5

8.) Have It (Interlude): This is a song where T-Pain just talks in rhyme, he works hard to make them sound good together and the sounds of the Tallahassee streets play non-stop in the background. I loved this song! 5/5

9.) Fly Away: These are some of the best lyrics T-Pain has! They’re real. They’re about life; the song is soulful and street at the same time. T-Pain put it to the max on this track! 5/5

10.) Going Thru A Lot: This is a perfect follow-up for “Fly Away”. This is very good, the rhyme scheme in this song is clever and the production is amazing. I also really like the Intro and Outro of this song. 5/5

11.) Say It: Original, not nearly as good as the others, but very original. 3/5

12.) Dance Floor (feat. Tay Dizm): Again, T-Pain astounds me! “Dance Floor” is fun, creative, and easy to dance to. Tay Dizm is a rapper T-Pain picked up and signed to a deal. (Dizm’s also on T-Pain’s other two albums “Epiphany and Thr33 Ringz) T-Pain does great singing and a killer rap at the end. 5/5

13.) Ur Not The Same: Again Akon comes in, but this time, he helps the song. He verse is very good. Plus T-Pain’s lyrics are whole lot better and the productionis better and more up-beat. 4/5

14.) My Place: very deep song here. Usher-like in a way, but still has that T-Pain style to it. Lyrics are as good as “Going Thru A Lot” and “Fly Away”. Good production, slower beat, great song! 5/5

15.) Blow Ya Mind: not really good. He never should have made this song… 1.5/5

16.) Ridge Road: Best Lyrics!!!!!!! Amazing, nostalgic, calm, cool, good use of word play when he spells out Ride Road in the chorus. THIS should be a #1 hit. Blues/soul/pop/rap, who wouldn’t like this????!!?!?!?! 10/5

This is an all-around amazing debut album from T-Pain!!!!! He doesn't over-use the auto-tune, but this is when it became his "T-Pain Affect". And what really blows my mind, is that "Epiphany" and "Thr33 Ringz" are both better than this!!!!! I would recommend this album to anyone, but if u don't want the whole album, here's my breakdown:

Good Songs:
I'm Sprung
Fly Away
Going Thru a Lot
Ur Not The Same
My Place
Ridge Road

Club Songs:
I'm In Luv Wit A Dance
Studio Luv
Como Estas
Dance Floor
I'm Hi

GO T-PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
