iTunes Review

John Fogerty established his career in the late-‘60s and early ‘70s as one of the era’s most concise social commentators, packing thoughtful ripostes into the three-minute magic of Creedence Clearwater Revival tunes such as “Fortunate Son,” “Who’ll Stop the Rain” and “Lodi” among the many. For years, Fogerty, the victim of ill-advised contracts, would not perform Creedence tunes and the only clue to his past was the stylistic consistency he brought to his current work. He now plays those older Creedence tunes and has re-signed to the record label that first brought him if not his fortune then his fame. 2007’s Revival is Fogerty’s most overt nod to his legacy. The sound is pure classic rock, stark, spare guitars stretched over sturdy grooves of perfectly locked-in bass and drums. The album sounds much like those old CCR albums, as if the playing was happening right there in the living room. ‘Don’t You Wish It Was True” features tight harmonies and Fogerty’s signature guitar tone. “Creedence Song” makes self-references to his music’s place in people’s lives, while “Long Dark Night” takes direct aim at world issues, naming names and casting blame. Fogerty’s always been a sentimentalist and a traditionalist aching for a past that has at least existed in part because he willed it to be.

Fogerty Rocks and brings back his Creedence sound!

Fogerty really rocks, with loud and fast guitar riffs. It is really the best pure rock album in years by anyone.....No lushness, just pure ROCK. "Creedence Song" is pure Creedence swamp rock sound ..."It ain't right " and "I can't take it no more' are great two minute long pure out and out rockers, like they used to be... "Longshot" is just great rock and roll period. And "Broken Down Cowboy" is pure "Lodi" all over again... Awesome album. Highly recommended! It sounds like a new Creedence album 35 years later. Fogerty was Creedence Clearwater revival and just closed out his 35 year old feud with his record company, so he decided to sound like Creedence again! If you liked Creedence you will LOVE this album!

You Cant Go Wrong If You Play A Little Bit Of That Creedence Song

Revival is not as good as Blue Moon Swamp but still can hold its own with any Fogerty album River is Waiting has that gospel feel with lots of Hammond Organ. It Aint Me and I Cant Take No More are short but crakin tunes and Broken Down Cowboy is a good tune. I think most Fogerty fans will like this CD. Most casual fans may not.

His best solo, maybe best of his generation?

Yeah, yeah, Bruce is on the loose, Dylan has discovered he's living in modern times, but John Fogerty plays and sings like 40 years ago was yesterday. I liked Blue Moon Swamp OK, but top to bottom this is a far superior album. There's not a wasted cut, his playing is a marvel, and his voice is as unique and powerful as it's always been. Unlike his contemporaries who are starting to slip or revamping themselves to compensate for their age, this is an old-style ALBUM. You can put on this disc, crank it up, and not reminisce about Glory Days, but rollick along with the timeless. Maybe only Van Morrison has done it as well, and even he has had his misses in recent eyars.

If Foges tours with this disc and band, and can reproduce this sound live, he wins HANDS DOWN as most important american musician of his generation. Congrats, John!
