Strange highs? Strange lows.
Being a longstanding Depeche Mode fan (as well as a fan of Black Box Recorder, from whence Sarah Nixey came) I expected a sexy, sultry cover of "Strangelove" by Depeche Mode. Sadly this track is (inexplicably) a different song with the same conjoined title, and ends up being just a slice of club pop that doesn't come close to either the delicously dark Black Box Recorder material nor the classic Depeche Mode track. The b-sides are intriguing, but frankly it just makes me want to listen to Black Box Recorder or Depeche Mode instead. Here's hoping her next outing is a little more meaty.

Arch, elegant British pop singer and songwriter Sarah Nixey is best known as the icy-voiced chanteuse of Black Box Recorder, a trio whose combination of melodic sweetness, bleakly cynical social commentary, and electronic pop eclecticism brought them a cult audience and some amount of (British) chart success around the turn of the millennium.
