Beautiful Album
I've been a big fan of Steve's for a long time, and this album lives up to all of his earlier work. Each song is full of life and emotion. Beautiful lyrics, you can absolutely feel the pain, longing and resignation in the words. 'Be My Baby' is just as fantastic as his tribute to 'She's Not There' on Groovin' on the Inside. I highly recommend 'Safe to Say', 'The One That Got Away' and 'Love You or Leave You', which was co-written with Jensen Ackles
Another winner
I've been listening to Steve Carlson since I discovered him playing with Kane several years ago. It's not just his unique voice and guitar work that attracts me to his music; it's also his songwriting. His songs paint a beautiful and vibrant picture, no matter the subject.
Each of his solo albums is better than the previous one and Stripped Down is certainly no exception. I started listening to the songs as they were previewed on Steve's MySpace page, streamed the album practically nonstop when it was posted to his website, and it's very nearly a constant in my CD player. My favorite songs are the ones that are just Steve and his guitar, but there's nothing on this album that I don't like.
I can't praise this talented man, or this album, enough.

Steve's newest album"Stripped Down" is aptly named. The layers have been stripped down until you get to the core, the essense, the raw emotions. Steve's restrained yet emotional vocals make you feel his angst and longing. The 12 songs are basically acoustic guitar with a little cello, piano, flute, drums and harmonica mixed in to create a perfect blend. The music only enhances the haunting lyrics. The songs make you feel like you want to take away the pain, but you also feel privileged that he's shared it with you. Highly recommend this album.
