Album Review

The Better Life, 3 Doors Down's debut album, positions them somewhere between radio-ready post-grunge and more aggressive alternative metal. The best songs are memorable exercises in that style, and even though the songwriting is uneven, that's often to be expected from a first record; there is at least an indication of potential here.

3 doors down is a great band in general, but this album is a comprimise for all of those who enjoy music, it has its head banging, its air guitar, and it great song Kryptonite, which everyone loves. A great album for anyone looking for a new taste in music.

I can't say that this is 3 Doors Down's best album (Away from the Sun owns all), but as their first album, it's very well done. When comparing The Better Life to say Nickelback's or Shinedown's first album, The Better Life is leagues above the others. Keep in mind though, after "be like that", most of the songs sound similair in some way or another; but just listen to the first three songs and you won't really mind. "Kryptonite" is still one of the top selling rock songs here on itunes, and for a good reason. "Loser" is a little emo for my taste, but it's awsome guitar riffs more than make up for it. "Duck and Run" is in my opinion the most underrated of their songs. It never gets boring and the lyrics are great. "Be Like That" is the next good song, but for some reason it just doesn't sound quite sound as good when compared to "Away from the Sun" or "Let Me Be Myself". Overall, this album is still good after nine years, and I don't think it will lose it's appeal anytime soon.
