Bringing Traditional County and a New Edge to Music
Some people give Elizabeth Cook a thumbs down because of her clear ties to a more traditional sounding country music. You cannot deny that her music clearly is inspired by stars such as Dolly Parton or Loretta Lynn. However, and this is a big however, Elizabeth Cook does not simply copy the work of those that proceeded her, but makes it her own, exposes it to new fans, and gives us another believable country star. In a day and age where country music is more pop than most pop songs, it's refreshing to see someone sticking to countries roots and turning it into something fun and exciting.
Not as good as her follow up "Balls" but better, in my opinion than her debut, and certainly worth a look.
The real deal
Taylor Swift, Rascal Flats, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood...NOT country music.
Elizabeth Cook...Extreme country music. Certainly not for everyone. But if you are interested in the soul of Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Hank Sr., etc. that is where Elizabeth Cook comes from. I saw her perform last night with Rodney Crowell, and she was just plain wonderful. There is nothing pretentious about her, she just does what she was born to do, and what is so deeply rooted in her soul.
