iTunes Review

Appetite for Destruction arrived near the height of the Sunset Strip hair-metal craze. But while Mike Clink's production gave Guns 'N Roses' debut an undeniably commercial sheen, this was a band willing to cop to more vices than just smokin' in the boys' room. Taking their lessons from the Stones and Aerosmith, they produced a howling tumult in praise of their vices ("Mr. Brownstone," "Nightrain") and ready to push the world back a step or two ("Welcome to the Jungle"). None of these guys was carrying a very cool head, least of all frontman Axl Rose. The breadth of his band's gift was heard in "Sweet Child o' Mine," an arching rainbow of a love song (to a woman, Erin Everly, Rose would prove unable to keep). For a few years the most popular rock band in the world, GNR's mega-stardom rested mostly on this album.

A very over rated band

Some of the songs on here are fun to listen to, however it becomes apparant that this is fairly ''corporate'' music. I'm not just an ignorant kid who knows nothing of musical history and thinks Greenday is a revolutionary punk band (if you didn't catch on, I don't think Greenday is true punk), I simply appreciate sincere artists (such as Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Tool, Serj Tankian, Dead Kenedies, Gojira etc.), and this is yesterdays answer to overrated, generic music such as Dragonforce or My Chemical Romance. Please don't take offence, this is only a random teenager's opinion, so you probably shouldn't take it too seriously, haha ;)

The kids are alright

I love how many of these reviews are from kids just discovering this album for the first time. About the same time this album came out, I rummaged through my mom's collection of records and found a bunch of The Who and Beatles albums and I loved them, just like I loved my GnR tape. The difference in time between my formative years and those vinyl records was exactly the same as the difference in time from Appetite for Destruction to now. Some things bridge generations.

Oh YEAH!!!!

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

At a time when pop was dominated by dance music and pop-metal, Guns N' Roses brought raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the charts. They were not nice boys; nice boys don't play rock & roll. They were ugly, misogynist, and violent; they were also funny, vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive,...
