Description
Lightspeed Magazine features all types of sf, from near-future, sociological soft sf, to far-future, star-spanning hard sf, and anything and everything in between . . . and in its debut issue, it contains four all-new, never-before-published stories: from newcomer Vylar Kaftan, we have an interstellar love story dealing with the perils of communication and time-dilation; from veteran, award-winning author Jack McDevitt, we have a tale about Earth?s moon and the mysteries it might still possess; from David Barr Kirtley, an adventure of a young catman who must face the last of the dogmen and something else entirely unexpected; and from bestselling author Carrie Vaughn, a cautionary tale of the near future that shows some of the extremes we might be pushed to if we don?t start implementing now the seeds for a sustainable future. This issue includes both accompanying author spotlights and articles for each story, with an editorial by John Joseph Adams, editor of The Living Dead, and Wastelands.
Customer Reviews
A fantastic first issue
I stumbled across Lightspeed earlier this week when its launch was mentioned on io9.com, and was immediately intrigued by the idea.
Four stories a month, four interviews, and four non-fiction pieces, one of each released weekly for free online with occasional podcasts to boot. Or, if you're impatient (and what SF fan isn't impatient for the future?) you can buy the ebook or iPad version for $2.99 and get the whole shebang day one. Needless to say, after reading I'm Alive, I Love You, I'll Meet You In Reno I snatched up the whole thing.
Why pay for something you can get online for free? The ability to read all of it before anyone else can is certainly appealing. Supporting authors trying a new project and having access to some of the best SF short stories I've read in years is pretty cool too. Check it out, it's $2.99. The price of one comic, half a magazine on the newsstands.
