Description
VISIONS OF AMERICA addresses a single question: How do you photograph democracy? After all, democracy is an ""idea,"" and not something one can easily wrap one's lens around. But photographing democracy is indeed what Joseph Sohm has done in this epic journey across the fifty states. Spanning three decades, tens of thousands of images were assembled in what becomes a compelling mosaic.
Visions of America is a perceptive work about both the photographer and the photographed. Reflecting on the wisdom of the founders, coupled with personal observations about American history, Sohm takes us on an insightful journey down the back roads and byways of the U.S., ultimately leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation of who we are as a nation and a people. Visions of America is a sweeping portrait of life in this American democracy, a portrait that shows us US, the United States.

Amazing
Joe Sohm's stunning photographs and text will take you on a journey you won't soon forget. As Paul Theroux says best in his introduction, Visions of America shows a "panorama of American dreams" in this stunning marriage of visual imagery and writing. After a lifetime of dedication to photographing democracy, Joe Sohm has created an instant classic and reminds us all that today there are more reasons then ever to take pride in America.
Photographing Deomocracy
Everything you love about America will be found in this beautifully photographed E-book...small towns, large cities, stunning landscapes, US Presidents, Icons, Native Americans, etc. Joseph Sohm claims it took 30 years to photograph all 50 states but, as I turn the digital pages, it looks as if he devoted a half century to capture our nation in living color. The book's best part are the 21 essays, loaded with historical insights that we all know. Each essay is rich, poignant, entertaining, and loaded with historical insights. The book is loaded with hundreds of unique links and contains over nine videos. Many of the videos are music-videos which won Telly Awards and others are entertaining interviews. With all the bad news today, this book is a breath of fresh air, a feel-good book about America. I strongly recommend this book for parents, teachers, and students who believe in America.
